A simple tortilla recipe

Ingredients

  • 300 grams flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 50 grams oil
  • 200 ml hot water (not boiling, hot water from the tap should be enough)

Steps

  1. Mix 300 grams flour, 1 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt together in a bowl.
  2. Mix in oil and hot water. If the dough is too shaggy, add in a little more water to let it come together.
  3. Knead dough a little bit to bring it together then divide into 8 pieces and shape into balls and let rest for 30 min.
  4. Preheat a cast iron skillet with oil.
  5. To flatten the dough, place dough between two lightly oiled pieces of parchment paper. Use a pie pan to press down. Transfer directly to hot skillet. Or use a tortilla press if you are lucky enough to have one.
  6. Cook for 30 seconds to a minute on each side.
